VI Diversity and Inclusion Panel – The Inclusion of Refugees in the Labor Market

11/Sep/2023 - Café da Manhã, Ciclo de palestras, Comitê de Recursos Humanos, Human Resources Breakfast, Palestras
On October 10th, for the sixth consecutive year, SWISSCAM’s Human Resources Committee has organized the Diversity and Inclusion Panel at the Hilton Morumbi hotel in São Paulo. For the 2023 edition, the theme was:
.

“The Inclusion of Refugees in the Labor Market”

The theme was chosen not only because of its international relevance, but also because it addresses a reality that cannot be ignored. In 2022 alone, the Brazilian government received a total of 50,355 applications for refugee status, an increase of 73% on the previous year.

Considering the 2022 data alone, more than 70% of asylum seekers in Brazil can be classified as economically active population (EAP). According to the IBGE, the EAP is any individual who is old enough and physically able to be part of the labor market. By 2022, this total represents more than 35,000 people.

The VI Diversity and Inclusion Panel featured five informative and inspiring talks on the subject. We had the opportunity to hear the testimonies of executives who have included refugees in their workforce; professionals responsible for the process of welcoming refugees into companies and the sharing of welcoming experiences.

(Data taken from the 8th Report “Refuge in Numbers 2023”, a publication promoted by the National Committee for Refugees (Conare) and the Department of Migration of the National Secretariat of Justice, and prepared by researchers from the Observatory of International Migration (OBMigra)).
