First international tour for the young musicians of the Philharmonic Academy Musicarium from Brazil
Joinville/Brasilien, 02.09.2024 – The Youth String Orchestra and the Percussion Ensemble of the Philharmonic Academy Musicarium from Brazil are embarking on their first European tour, giving three free concerts in Switzerland. On September 26, 28, and 29, 2024, they will perform in LaChaux-de-Fonds, Geneva and Bern, before continuing to Germany and the Netherlands. The program features works from internationally renowned composers such as Tchaikovsky and Brazilian composers like Villa-Lobos. The 23 young musicians are students at the nonprofit organization Musicarium, which provides musical training to talented children and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, preparing them for a professional career. This is their first trip abroad.
The Philharmonic Academy Musicarium in Joinville, southern Brazil, is a social educational project that nurtures talented children and youth from underprivileged backgrounds by providing highquality classical music education.
Young people traveling abroad for the first time
The first international tour of Musicarium’s Youth String Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble will take them through Switzerland, Germany, and the Netherlands. The tour aims to promote cultural exchange and showcase Brazil’s musical heritage. The 23 young musicians, aged 14-21, are leaving their home country for the first time for this concert series.
“The aim of the trip is to establish cultural ties and musical exchange. It will be a great development opportunity for the young musicians, as well as the academy, strengthening international partnerships and recognition,” says Sergio Ogawa, CEO of the Philharmonic Academy Musicarium.
“The concert tour is an important achievement for the Musicarium, enhancing its visibility in major cultural institutions and the international community”.
Free concerts
All concerts during the tour in Switzerland are free, allowing everyone to experience the beauty of classical music. The program includes Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings and works by various Brazilian composers.

Background information
The Philharmonic Academy Musicarium in Brazil is a training center for orchestras. Currently, 180 children and youth are taught by 25 teachers. As a non-profit organization, it fosters young talent and provides them with a humanistic music education of the highest standard. Musicarium combines cultural work with social impact, aiming to become internationally recognized while transforming lives through music, promoting culture, and educating children and youth to become future citizens. International exchange, including guest semesters, plays a crucial role in this mission. The 17 yearsold percussionist Caio Uliano remembers when he first heard about the education. ”At that time, the orchestral context was new to me – I have never seen an orchestra play in my life. But grabbed this opportunity with all my might”, he says.
The Musicarium was founded in 2017. In 2019, the children’s orchestra was established. The youth orchestra was launched in 2024, and five years later, in 2030, a professional philharmonic orchestra is to be established.
